Captain Grausam is the naval captain of a merchant ship.
Personality[]
He is described as being old and incredibly cruel, and enjoys meeting out punishments for the slightest offence.
Role In The Book[]
When Izod is captured by a press-gang, he is forced to join Grausam's naval crew. He is treated poorly by Grausam, even being keelhauled for taking a moldy apple no one even wanted. Eventually Grausam's merchant ship is invaded by the Laughingstock, and the captain Percival allows Izod and a few others to join his crew.
Trivia[]
- It is believed his Candle Cove counterpart is the Earl of Wax.
- His name is German for "cruel", and is also similar to the word "gruesome".
- Percival was once a member of Grausam's crew, and was terrorized by him just as Izod had been.
